HAE Long-Term Prophylaxis from CSL Behring.
Andembry is a once-monthly Factor XIIa inhibitor for prevention of HAE attacks. As a monoclonal antibody targeting an upstream enzyme in the contact-activation pathway that drives HAE attacks, it represents a newer mechanism for prophylaxis. Once-monthly maintenance dosing (after an initial loading regimen) offers convenience for patients seeking less-frequent administration than weekly or biweekly options.
Andembry is FDA-approved for the following indications:
Andembry is administered as a subcutaneous self-injection. After an initial loading dose, maintenance dosing is once monthly. Patients are trained on technique and most administer doses independently at home.
The manufacturer offers a patient support program — CSL Behring Assurance — that can help with insurance navigation, copay assistance for eligible patients, nursing support, and ongoing education. More information is available at https://www.cslbehring.com.
Treatment with Andembry is initiated and monitored by Dr. McNeil. Prior authorizations are handled in-house — patients are not asked to navigate insurance approvals on their own. This is a subcutaneous self-administered medication. After prior authorization, the prescription is sent to a specialty pharmacy that ships the medication directly to the patient. A manufacturer-sponsored nurse or office-based training visit is typically arranged for the first dose so patients are confident with self-administration before continuing at home.
A note on age: The FDA indications above may include pediatric or adolescent age groups. Optimed Immunology's clinical practice is focused on adults. If you are seeking care for a minor, please contact the office and we can advise on referral options.
