HAE Long-Term Prophylaxis (Oral) from BioCryst Pharmaceuticals.
Orladeyo is the first oral once-daily medication approved for HAE prophylaxis. As an inhibitor of plasma kallikrein, it works on the same pathway as Takhzyro but is taken by mouth — eliminating the need for injection or infusion. For many patients, this represents a major improvement in convenience and quality of life.
Orladeyo is FDA-approved for the following indications:
Orladeyo is taken as a single capsule once daily, with food.
The manufacturer offers a patient support program — Orladeyo EHUB Patient Services — that can help with insurance navigation, copay assistance for eligible patients, nursing support, and ongoing education. More information is available at https://www.orladeyo.com/orladeyo-ehub.
Treatment with Orladeyo is initiated and monitored by Dr. McNeil. Prior authorizations are handled in-house — patients are not asked to navigate insurance approvals on their own. This is an oral medication, dispensed through your preferred pharmacy or a specialty pharmacy partner depending on insurance coverage. The team coordinates the prescription and follows up to confirm the medication has been received.
A note on age: The FDA indications above may include pediatric or adolescent age groups. Optimed Immunology's clinical practice is focused on adults. If you are seeking care for a minor, please contact the office and we can advise on referral options.
